Reiki (pronounced RAY-key) is an alternative healing technique that involves the transfer of universal life force energy to support the body's natural ability to heal itself. The Origins of Reiki Healing
Reiki was developed in 1922 by Mikao Usui in Japan. According to texts, Usui embarked on a 21-day fast to discover how Jesus healed. At the end, he received the ability from the universe to channel Reiki energy and transmit it to others through light touch or hovering of hands above the body.
The word Reiki comes from rei meaning universal and ki meaning life force energy that sustains all living things. This energy is all around us and Reiki allows focused connection to it.

Reiki relies on the transmission of ki from the universe rather than the practitioners personal energy reserves. By opening as a vessel, the practitioner channels positive energy through their hands to the recipient.
